Our Commitment to Safety

  • Developing a culture of safety and security for our employees is our company’s greatest priority. DDIS pride ourselves in our commitment to maintaining our unblemished safety record. Since the birth of the company, over 13 years ago, DDIS has made over 4000 ascensions. Due to our unique technology, we has the ability to loft our surveillance aerostat balloon in urban settings, upwards of 1400ft. This provides a unique opportunity to document and survey specific vantage points in space, a highly sought after service, which we provide for our clients.
  • To ensure a safe environment for our staff and bystanders, DDIS implements the following safety practices:
  • Prior to every flight, OSHA 10-certified DDIS team members implement a location-specific safety-hazards inspection, which we use to design a safe flight plan.
  • All DDIS personnel are equipped with the necessary job-specific safety equipment and training.
  • DDIS equipment is built with numerous safety redundancies to assure that, in the event of equipment failure, there is  a backup.
  • Before, during, and after every flight, DDIS follows a strict protocol of safety checklists, and equipment inspections.
  • We work diligently to maintain a safe environment for all bystanders within the immediate surroundings. This may involve anything from coning of a safe buffer zone around our equipment up to contracting a police escort.
  • With every ascension, DDIS works closely with all relevant airspace safety and security agencies to obtain the needed access to national airspace. The majority of our flights fall within highly controlled airspace and, therefore, require FAA safety and TSA security waivers, as well as inter-agency and local air traffic control communications.
